November 2004 Champions for Life were in four prisons this past weekend: Okeechobee Correctional Institution Martin Correctional Institution Moore Haven Correctional Institution Vision Quest We checked into the hotel and headed over to the Church and were blessed to have Clifton Jansky play for us. Clifton had just won ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR Thursday night (just the before) on National TV. I cried as he played God's Way and afterwards told him how blessed we all were that he plays his Christian Country Music for us teammates as well as for the inmates, my heart smiled as he gave me a hug. We were also blessed to see Tino Wallenda as he has been in Monte Carlo the past few prison trips and is now the recipients of the SILVER CLOWN award. We missed the follow-up dinner (which is where we get most
of our stats
from the weekend, however I am waiting to hear back on the numbers).
We
stayed behind and Scotty repaired one of the trikes. One of the trikes
stayed broke down outside the prison all day and Scotty ensured Larry,
the
owner of the trike, that we would get him up and running so he could
get
back home to Pasco County before we left. Well as you may guess, you
can't
take tools into prison and there are no near by stores (OCI is in the
middle of nowhere) so we were blessed to get out of the prison with enough
time to "find a parts store" and
to buy both parts as well as tools.
Scotty rebuilt what needed rebuilt right there and got it back up and
running in the parking lot. By the time we got the trike fixed one of
the
bikers wives (Sharon, Al's wife) told us that we had missed the dinner
and
by the time we got cleaned up and ate we missed the special concert
Clifton Jansky played for us Saturday night. Praise be to our Lord that
we
got to hear/speak to Clifton twice, once Friday night as he sang for
us at
the team meeting and once again as he sang/spoke at the prison we were
assigned. |
